9th Edition of International Conference on Traditional Medicine and Integrative Health
June 22-24, 2024 | Barcelona, Spain
Dr. Margo is presenting on Pattern-based Chinese herbal therapeutics in peri-menopause: Clinical applications & evidence-based medicine. This is a hybrid event, in person and virtual. Registration is open
Abstract:
Peri-menopause is a complex transitional phase marked by fluctuating hormones, metabolic changes, and shifts in mood, sleep, cognition, and overall vitality. Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine offers an individualized and holistic framework for understanding and treating these changes through pattern differentiation, allowing practitioners to address the root imbalances underlying symptoms rather than focusing solely on hormonal decline. This presentation outlines the key TCM patterns involved in peri-menopause, including Kidney Yin and Yang deficiency, Liver Qi stagnation, Heart–Kidney disharmony, and Spleen Qi deficiency, and highlights the classical herbal formulas most effective for each pattern. In addition to reviewing these diagnostic frameworks, the session will explore how Traditional Chinese Medicine conceptualizes peri-menopause as a multidimensional neuroendocrine transition, emphasizing regulation of the HPA axis, modulation of thermoregulation, support of vascular and metabolic stability, and harmonization of emotional and cognitive function. Current evidence-based research on herbal therapies, and acupuncture will be reviewed, along with considerations for safety, herb–drug interactions, and integration with conventional treatments such as hormone therapy. Clinical cases will illustrate diagnostic reasoning, pattern refinement, treatment planning, and outcome evaluation. Participants will gain practical, evidence-informed strategies for incorporating Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine into peri-menopause care, helping improve patient outcomes through a holistic, systems-oriented, and integrative approach.

The transition through menopause is an opportunity to become more deeply connected to ourselves. Rather than a time of loss and depletion, we view the natural transition through menopause as a way to gather energy within, to build stamina and open to grace.
In this series of classes, Surya and Margo combine their expertise in therapeutic yoga, nutrition, hormonal balancing and herbal medicine. They have both devoted their careers to women’s health—Surya in the practices of yoga for women and Margo as a Doctor of Chinese Medicine. Because menopause can result in a dip in energy and overall mood, we focus on practices to restore vitality, increase energy, optimize digestion and balance mood. 6th Edition of International Conference on Traditional Medicine, Ethnomedicine And Natural Therapies
June 20-22, 2024 | Paris, France
Dr. Margo is presenting on Unexplained infertility and Traditional Chinese Medicine. This is a hybrid event, in person and virtual.
Abstract: Unexplained infertility affects approximately 15-30% of the infertile population. This is a challenging diagnosis that responds well to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) when other treatment options are not desired nor effective. TCM views the body through unique diagnostic lenses, which pinpoint imbalances at the root level to restore health, vitality and fertility. The process begins with a thorough examination through questioning, pulse and tongue diagnosis. From these findings, an Eastern diagnosis is formed, which reveals the root cause of the imbalance and as well as the branch symptoms. Then a multi-factorial, integrative treatment plan is developed. The acupuncturist/herbalist skillfully steers the body toward health and fertility by targeting the root cause. Individually tailored acupuncture treatments, herbal medicine supplements and other natural therapies are utilized. Once balance is restored, ovulation, conception, pregnancy and live birth can happen. TCM and holistic therapies offer treatment options and hope for those struggling with all diagnosed infertility, especially unexplained infertility.
